Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued several important directives following a review meeting with the School Education Department, including recording attendance three times a day in CBSE schools across Himachal Pradesh and introducing a dress code for teachers.
Under the new system, students’ attendance in CBSE schools will be recorded three times a day — at check-in, during lunch time and at check-out.
The move was discussed during a meeting focused on strengthening discipline and improving the academic system in schools.
The Chief Minister also directed that a dress code be implemented for CBSE schools. Teachers will be required to report to school in the prescribed dress from October 1, 2026.
Officials have also been directed to prepare a proposal regarding a dress code for students. A final decision on the matter will be taken within one week.
Sukhu said necessary corrective measures are being taken to ensure transparency, discipline and accountability in the education system.
He said the steps are aimed at further strengthening the quality of education in government schools.
A total of 133 government schools in Himachal Pradesh are being affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The Himachal Pradesh Board will conduct examinations for these schools in 2027, while CBSE will take over the examinations from 2028.
The process of creating a separate sub-cadre for these schools and deploying teachers is currently underway.
