Manchester United Women have completed the historic signing of Rebeca Bernal, in a transfer that delivered encouraging news for Mexico in women’s football on Wednesday.

The former Monterrey defender is set to become the first Mexican woman to feature in England’s Women’s Super League, and she will do so with one of the competition’s biggest clubs.

Bernal was a member of Rayadas’ title-winning sides from the launch of Liga MX Femenil in 2017 through to 2025, before receiving her first opportunity abroad with the Washington Spirit.
