Marcus Thuram has explained why he joined captain Lautaro Martinez in celebrating on the barriers at San Siro after Inter’s dramatic comeback victory over Napoli. The France forward scored a crucial header as the Nerazzurri came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Inter showed tremendous spirit to claim an exciting 3-2 win against Napoli in a sunlit San Siro contest. After falling two goals behind early in the second half because of quick strikes from Matteo Politano and Rasmus Hojlund, the Nerazzurri appeared to be out of the game. But Cristian Chivu’s men responded with relentless pressure on the visitors’ goal, firing 29 shots before completing a remarkable late comeback.

Playing at San Siro for the first time this season after returning to action, Marcus Thuram made a decisive contribution to the fightback when he headed in a cross from Carlos Augusto in the 82nd minute to level the score at 2-2. The goal triggered jubilant scenes, with Thuram sprinting over to celebrate alongside captain Lautaro Martinez on the stadium barriers. Lautaro later said that he always calls his strike partner “crazy” for climbing up there, but Thuram made it clear he felt he had to do it.

“Today was amazing – I had to follow him! Lautaro is our captain and our leader, and he came back from a very long World Cup and immediately made himself available to the team,” Thuram said with a smile.

Thuram had glowing words for his attacking team-mate, who scored on either side of the Frenchman’s header before wrapping up the 3-1 victory in the 91st minute during a frantic finish. Even though the goals drew most of the attention, the French forward underlined that the main aim was always the team’s success during a demanding run of fixtures.

“He’s getting back to full fitness and tonight he gave us the win. Was I eager to make an impact again? Yes, but first and foremost I wanted to help the team,” Thuram added.

The dramatic 3-2 win means Inter have preserved their perfect start to the Serie A season, collecting nine points from their first three matches. Although the side showed outstanding resilience to recover from a two-goal deficit, Thuram stressed that the squad must stay grounded with sterner challenges still to come. With games arriving one after another, the Nerazzurri want to approach every test step by step.

“We have a lot of games coming one after another and we’re always trying to improve. We take it one game at a time. The league is tough, and we’ll keep doing the best we can,” Thuram concluded.
