CBSE is set to announce the new schedule for the CTET exam soon. According to media reports, the exam was postponed due to administrative reasons; candidates are advised to keep an eye on the official website.

There is an important update for candidates aspiring to become teachers in CBSE-affiliated schools. CBSE will soon announce the revised exam date for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) – September 2026. The new exam dates will be released on the board's official website, ctet.nic.in.

Following the release of the revised exam schedule, the board will also issue exam city slips and admit cards for candidates. The exam city slip will inform candidates about the city where their exam is scheduled to be held.

Application Window Reopened Following Supreme Court Verdict

A primary reason for the change in the CTET exam schedule is the reopening of the application process. Following a significant Supreme Court ruling, CBSE had to reopen the application window for the CTET September 2026 exam. Candidates were able to apply for the exam between August 25 and September 1, 2026. With the application process now complete, the board is preparing a new schedule for the 22nd edition of the exam, which will be made public very soon.

What will the exam pattern be like?

The CTET 2026 exam will be conducted in offline mode. Candidates will have a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam. Each CTET paper will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) worth a total of 150 marks. Additionally, Paper 1 will comprise five sections, while Paper 2 will consist of four distinct sections. Candidates must secure a minimum of 90 marks to qualify for the exam.

What is the difference between Paper 1 and Paper 2?

Paper 1 – This exam is intended for candidates who wish to become primary teachers for Classes 1 to 5.

Paper 2 – This examination is conducted for candidates aspiring to become upper primary teachers for Classes 6 to 8.

It is a mandatory eligibility test for anyone seeking a teaching position in Central Government schools or government schools run by various states.

The CBSE has clarified that the validity of the CTET certificate will now be lifelong for candidates across all categories; in other words, once the exam is cleared, the certificate remains valid forever. Candidates must download their admit card after it is issued and carry it to the examination center, as entry into the exam hall will not be permitted without it.
