Liverpool shirts have always had a way of staying in the memory. One specific design can instantly bring back a season, a final or a particular player. Through those changing periods, the name across the front has often provided a sense of continuity. From the summer of 2027, that familiar feature will be different.
Turkish Airlines will become Liverpool’s new sponsor and main club partner from June 2027, with its branding appearing on the front of the shirt for the 2027-28 season. It will mark the first change in that position in 17 years.
According to the announcement released by Liverpool FC, Standard Chartered will remain the main club partner throughout 2026-27 before moving into the role of global partner. That means its association with Liverpool will continue, even though the club’s most visible commercial position will pass to another company.
For supporters, the most obvious impact will be visual. Turkish Airlines will take over a place that Standard Chartered has occupied since 2010, ending a long period of familiarity whenever Liverpool step onto the pitch.
That means this is more than simply another addition to the club’s commercial portfolio. A front-of-shirt sponsor becomes part of a team’s identity, featuring in match photographs, television broadcasts and replica shirts worn by supporters across the world.
Liverpool have presented the agreement in that context. Ben Latty, the club’s chief commercial officer, said: “The front of the Liverpool shirt holds a special place in the history of our club.”
The timeline for the switch is clear. Standard Chartered will keep its current position for the upcoming campaign, with Turkish Airlines taking over in June 2027. Supporters therefore have a season to get used to the idea before the new branding appears.
There is also continuity within the change. Standard Chartered’s move to global partner means Liverpool will maintain a relationship that has been part of a significant stretch in the club’s modern history.
Since becoming main club partner in 2010, the bank has been present through major sporting moments and has worked with Liverpool on initiatives involving supporters and communities. The announcement acknowledges that contribution while also marking the arrival of its successor.
Latty said: “They have been an important part of our journey through an exceptional period in the club’s history, and we are delighted that Standard Chartered will remain part of the Liverpool FC family as a global partner from June 2027.”
For Liverpool, the arrangement allows the club to preserve an established commercial link while opening the central place in its sponsorship structure to a different company.
The reasoning put forward by both organisations is based on their global reach. Liverpool’s support spans continents, while Turkish Airlines operates from its Istanbul hub with a network that, according to the announcement, reaches more countries than any other airline.
That shared international presence provides the commercial logic behind the partnership. Liverpool offer exposure to a worldwide football audience. Turkish Airlines brings a business centred on transporting people between countries and linking communities across long distances.
Ahmet Olmustur, named in the announcement as Turkish Airlines CEO, said: “We are very pleased that Turkish Airlines will become the club’s main club partner and that our name will take its place on one of the most iconic shirts in world sport.”
Latty also referred to Liverpool’s special memories of 2005. That connection gives Istanbul an immediate emotional significance for supporters, alongside the commercial case made for the deal.
The announcement provided does not reveal the financial value of the agreement or how long it will run. As a result, it offers no basis for any claims about record sponsorship revenue or how much extra money may become available for recruitment.
What it does confirm is a significant shift in Liverpool’s commercial identity, with a fixed start date and an ongoing role for the outgoing main partner.
For Turkish Airlines, the shirt provides a highly prominent place in the weekly habits and long-term memories of Liverpool supporters. For the club, the task will be to build the relationship beyond the first announcement and the launch of the new branding.
The first visible sign of the change will come with the 2027-28 shirt. After 17 years of Standard Chartered on the front, Liverpool will start creating a new set of memories with a different name beneath the badge.
