New Delhi: Apple has entered a new phase in its smartphone journey with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first-ever foldable device, the iPhone Duo. While the Pro models bring expected performance and camera upgrades, Apple's biggest move this year is its entry into the foldable smartphone market a segment dominated by rivals for years.
The launch marks a major shift in Apple's strategy as the company moves beyond annual hardware upgrades and focuses on creating a completely new premium device category.
The iPhone Duo is the center of attraction in Apple's latest lineup. Unlike traditional book-style foldable smartphones, Apple has adopted a shorter and wider passport-style design, aiming to improve portability and everyday usability.
The device features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch foldable inner screen. Apple has focused on reducing the visible crease and improving durability with a redesigned hinge system.
The foldable iPhone also supports Apple Pencil, bringing an iPad-like experience to a smartphone for users who want a larger workspace.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max continue Apple's premium smartphone legacy with the new A20 Pro chipset, improved AI capabilities and upgraded camera technology.
Both models feature a triple 48MP camera system, while the Pro Max offers a larger 6.9-inch display. Apple has also introduced a smaller Dynamic Island design with enhanced functionality.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900, while the Pro Max begins at Rs 1,79,900 in India.
The iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900, making it the most expensive iPhone ever launched. The top-end variant reaches Rs 4.49 lakh, positioning it firmly in the ultra-premium category.
Experts believe Apple's entry could accelerate the foldable smartphone market, as the company is known for bringing mature designs and a large developer ecosystem to emerging technologies.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available for pre-booking from September 12, with sales beginning September 18. The iPhone Duo will open for pre-orders from October 16 and will reach stores from October 23.
With the iPhone Duo, Apple is not just launching a new product but attempting to redefine what a premium smartphone can become.
