Is the challan eligible for presentation in court?

Simply checking whether a challan is pending is not enough. To settle your challan at the Lok Adalat, you must verify its status on the Virtual Court or the relevant portal. If the status reads "Transfer to Regular Court" or "Contested," it means your challan has reached the court system and is eligible for settlement at the Lok Adalat.

Conversely, if the status reads "Pending" or "Sent to Court," your challan is not yet eligible for the Lok Adalat, as the necessary preliminary processing has not been completed. However, instead of worrying in such a situation, you can change the status of your challan online.

How to change the status?

To do this, first visit the Virtual Courts Portal.
Then, select your state and the relevant department.
Next, search for your challan using the CNR number or challan number.
All details related to the challan will then appear on your screen.
You will see a 'View' option; click on it.
After that, select the option to 'Contest the case' or 'Send to court'.
This will initiate the process of transferring your challan to a regular court.
If the status changes, your challan will become eligible for the Lok Adalat.

What if the status does not change?

If the status of your challan does not change online, there is no need to worry. You can simply visit your nearest district court on September 12 with a printout of the challan. There, you can inquire about the status of your challan with the staff at the help desk. If possible, they will assist you with the further process of presenting your challan before the Lok Adalat.
