New Delhi, 10 September 2026: Keeping in view the cases of fraud in GST registration, Delhi High Court has issued an important interim order. The court has said that biometric-based verification will be mandatory for GST registration across India.
A division bench comprising Justice Anil Kshetrapal and Justice Shail Jain passed this order during the hearing of an application filed by a housewife.
The housewife had alleged in the application that her PAN card was misused to obtain GST registration. Subsequently, he received a notice from the GST department regarding the outstanding GST dues.
The petition alleged that in order to carry out financial fraud, GST registration was obtained by using stolen or frozen PAN card and Aadhaar card details of unknown citizens.
After hearing the matter, a bench of the Delhi High Court has issued an interim order making biometric-based verification mandatory for registration across India under the GST regime.
