Which departments recruit through the SSC CPO exam?

Who can apply?

Nationality requirement: Candidates must be citizens of India. Citizens of Nepal or Bhutan may also be eligible but must obtain a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.

Age requirement: Age will be calculated as of 1 August 2026.

For the posts of Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the age must be between 20 and 25 years (born between 2 August 2001 and 1 August 2006).
For the post of Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF, the age limit is 18 to 30 years (born between 2 August 1996 and 1 August 2008).
Reserved categories will receive age relaxation as per the rules.

What are the educational qualifications?

For general Sub-Inspector posts, a bachelor's degree in any discipline is required. This qualification must be completed by 30 September 2026.
For the post of Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF, candidates must possess a B.Sc. degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, or a relevant three-year engineering diploma.

How will the selection take place?
The selection process will consist of four stages:

What does the physical test entail?
Following the written examination, there will be a physical standard and efficiency test. This stage is qualifying in nature, but passing it is mandatory to proceed to the next stage.

For male candidates in the general category, the minimum height requirement is 170 cm. For candidates from hilly regions, it is 165 cm, and it is lower for certain special categories.
For female candidates, the minimum height requirement is 157 cm.

What activities are included in the Physical Efficiency Test?
For male candidates, the test includes a 100-meter race, a 1.6-kilometer race, long jump, high jump, and shot put. For female candidates, it includes a 100-meter race, an 800-meter race, long jump, and high jump.

Standards prescribed for men:
100 meters: 16 seconds
1.6 kilometers: 6.5 minutes
Long jump: 3.65 meters
High jump: 1.2 meters
Shot put: 4.5 meters

For women:
100 meters: 18 seconds
800 meters: 4 minutes
Long jump: 2.7 meters
High jump: 0.9 meters

Three attempts are allowed for the long jump, high jump, and shot put.
