Phil Foden is one of four players to feature in the worst XI from the latest Premier League weekend.

The Manchester City man is accompanied by three players from Coventry and, perhaps a little harshly, a Sunderland trio.

Here is the worst XI from matchday four, based on WhoScored ratings…

GK: Djordje Petrovic (Bournemouth) – 4.6 It was a poor outing against Brentford that spoiled what had otherwise been a fairly encouraging start to the season for the Bournemouth goalkeeper, who let in two goals from an xG of 0.5. Petrovic could be blamed for the Bees’ opener when he failed to keep out Kevin Schade’s header despite getting a full hand to it, and he was definitely at fault for the second after effectively passing the ball straight to the Brentford forward. RB: Lewie Coyle (Hull City) – 6.0 The lowest-rated displays this weekend came largely down the left, so the Hull skipper may feel a touch unlucky to make this side after a respectable 2-2 draw at Chelsea that preserved his team’s unbeaten start to the season. But Coyle did miss a big first-half chance and was beaten by Cole Palmer in the move that led to Chelsea’s second goal.

CB: Axel Disasi (Crystal Palace) – 5.3 The Palace new arrival put the Eagles under pressure before half-time with a silly, rash challenge on Jack Clarke that brought a straight red card. Palace battled hard but eventually went down late with 10 men, and Disasi will now be absent from the Premier League for six weeks.

CB: Bobby Thomas (Coventry) – 5.6 It was a miserable day all round for Coventry, and Thomas was one of six Sky Blues starters to receive a rating below 6.0. He allowed Malick Yalcouye to break away for Brighton’s second goal and then gave away the penalty for Brighton’s third.

LB: Reinildo (Sunderland) – 4.8 The stoppage-time penalty conceded by the Sunderland left-back, which led to Arsenal’s spot-kick to seal the points, along with his second yellow card, means Chelsea’s Jorrel Hato (5.4) escapes inclusion. Across the previous 90 minutes, Reinildo had done a solid job of keeping Bukayo Saka quiet.

CM: Matt Grimes (Coventry) – 5.8 The Coventry captain was no more to blame than any of his team-mates for their second-half collapse – Grimes won all four of the duels he contested – but he still ended up as the weekend’s lowest-rated central midfielder.

CM: Enzo Le Fee (Sunderland) – 5.9 Le Fee can count himself unfortunate to be in this XI. He played his part in a commendable Sunderland display against Arsenal, creating a couple of chances before missing the biggest one of the lot. Even then, it was not an especially poor penalty from Le Fee – it was more an outstanding save than a bad miss. Unfortunately for him, the match turned on that moment.

LW: Phil Foden (Manchester City) – 5.1 Strangely, Foden may actually have helped his side by being sent off after 23 minutes, because it made City more compact and United had no answer to that. Many people have argued that Foden’s dismissal was harsh, but Enzo Maresca accepts that it was the correct decision.

RW: Emi Buendia (Aston Villa) – 5.9 Buendia is pushed out to the right here despite operating more centrally for Villa in their home defeat to Forest. The Villa creator, like several of his team-mates, is having a difficult start to the campaign, and he was taken off shortly after the hour mark after failing to create a chance and losing most of his eight duels.

CF: Taiwo Awoniyi (Coventry) – 5.0 Shortly after Coventry conceded the decisive second goal against Brighton, Awoniyi added to the Sky Blues’ troubles by being sent off for a clash with Maxim De Cuyper. Harsh as it may have seemed, Coventry – already scoreless after four games – must now cope without their main centre-forward for matches against Forest, Newcastle and Tottenham.
