Hull City have confirmed that Sorba Thomas was not injured after his vehicle overturned near the club’s training ground on Friday morning.

Images shared online showed a Land Rover Defender with a personalised number plate lying upside down beside a narrow residential road.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened at around 9am, with fire engines and police arriving at the scene.

Pictures circulating online also showed Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic at the location.

The Premier League club confirmed that Wales international Thomas was behind the wheel, but said he is “totally unscathed” and will travel with the rest of the squad for Saturday’s match against Chelsea.

Thomas overturned his car on Friday morning.

A club statement said: “Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.

“The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”

Thomas joined Hull from Stoke on deadline day and made his debut in last week’s draw against Aston Villa. Speaking on Thursday, Jakirovic said the winger “suits” the club.

“I don’t have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship (at Stoke),” he said.

“He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left (sided) number 10. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces.

“He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us.”

Thomas joined Hull on deadline day.

Hull are due to return to Premier League action at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Jakirovic joked on Thursday that the best way to stop the free-scoring Blues would be to “kick them”.

Asked how Hull could contain them, Jakirovic said with a laugh: “To kick them? No, if you are there man-marking, you don’t have chance.

“So, it’s very, very simple because they are capable to pass one, two, three players. It’s about being together – compact team, team effort and defending as a team, and we will see.

“But they have very, very big quality and it will be very, very demanding for us. Tough, but we will see. Like I said, it’s a great challenge ahead of us, and we will try to play.”
