Manchester United devoted a large part of the summer transfer window to pursuing Lewis Hall.
The England international had been identified as their main option to provide competition for Luke Shaw and eventually succeed him. However, the Red Devils moved too late to put in an official approach.
Newcastle United closed the door after parting with several of their key players and have since persuaded Hall to commit to a long-term contract at St James’ Park, leaving the Manchester club to explore other options.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Bournemouth left-back Adrien Truffert.
United are expected to make signing a new left-back a priority in the coming days and are said to view Truffert as one of their leading targets, as well as a major alternative in the search for Shaw’s replacement, with “the club already laying the groundwork for a possible move.”
The 24-year-old French player only arrived at the Cherries from Rennes last summer and swiftly nailed down his place in the side, starting every Premier League match.
Now valued at £60 million, Truffert contributed directly to six league goals and caught the eye with his stamina, forward-driving runs and quality of crossing.
It is believed that the chance to join a club of United’s stature would be hard for Truffert to turn down.
United have been “unusually open about their interest, a sign that they would not publicise their admiration so freely unless they believed the player wanted the move.”
“In modern football, clubs of United’s stature typically only become this transparent when they already have a clear indication of the player’s stance,” the report states.
The France international remains under contract with Bournemouth until 2030.
It is worth noting that Alex Scott was open to joining United this summer, but Bournemouth succeeded in retaining him even though his current deal runs until 2028.
