Liverpool remain unwilling to drop their interest in Aleksandar Stankovic, who continues to be viewed as a key long-term option for the future of their midfield.

This summer has been a highly emotional period for Aleksandar Stankovic. After Inter activated the buy-back clause in his registration and brought him back by triggering the €23 million option included in the agreements with Club Brugge, Dejan Stankovic's son has experienced both sides of the moment: the excitement of finally becoming part of the Inter first team he has supported since childhood, and the awareness that several clubs are prepared to invest heavily to sign him.

One of those clubs was Liverpool. According to TeamTalk in England, the Merseyside club not only made an approach for him with Inter during the summer, but are also continuing to follow him very closely with a view to making another attempt in the upcoming transfer windows.

The offer during the Jones negotiations

Liverpool made a firm move for Stankovic in the summer during the negotiations in which Inter spent a long time working on a deal that eventually resulted in the Italian club signing English midfielder Curtis Jones outright from the Reds.

During those talks, Liverpool's decision-makers attempted to send the former Club Brugge player to Andoni Iraola, but they were ultimately met with two rejections: first from Inter, who turned down a proposal for a loan with a substantial obligation to buy at the end of the season, and then from the player himself, who decided to take himself off the market and try to realise his dream of playing at San Siro in an Inter shirt.

Fresh move planned

Instead, the Reds have promoted Trey Nyoni to the first team and are working on developing their own young talent. However, with the next transfer windows in mind, TeamTalk report that Liverpool will continue to monitor Stankovic's development, assess how much game time Cristian Chivu will actually offer him, and see whether there is a chance to prise him away from Inter before the summer of 2027, when he is expected to remain a transfer target in any case.
