Guangzhou-New Delhi Flight : The 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India, is starting today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. In this two-day summit, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BRICS countries will discuss shared priorities, global issues and strengthening mutual cooperation. According to reports, China Southern Airlines announced on Saturday that it will resume regular passenger service on the Guangzhou-New Delhi route from September 21, after a six-year suspension.
With the resumption of this service, the airline will operate more than 100 flights per week on eight round-trip routes in South Asia, the airline said.
China Southern Airlines, headquartered in Guangzhou, China's southern Guangdong Province, is one of the country's largest airline companies.
This announcement by the airline came on Saturday during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to India, where he is going to participate in the BRICS Summit and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on further improving mutual relations.
Flight services between India and China were halted following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and were not resumed amid the more than four-year-long military standoff between the two countries in eastern Ladakh, which ended in October last year. The resumption of flights is part of the gradual normalization of India-China relations following two meetings between Modi and Xi in 2024 and 2025.
Modi and Xi met during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia in October 2024, followed by another meeting during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin in 2025.
Following the improvement in relations, several Chinese and Indian airlines have resumed flight services between cities in the two countries, including the Beijing-New Delhi route.
