These days, the increasing humidity in many parts of the country has increased the trouble of people. There is relief from heat and humidity, but experts say that increasing humidity can also prove dangerous for the health of bones and joints.

Dr. Varsha Bhatt, Rheumatologist at Apollo Clinic, Pune, said that humidity has a direct effect on bones and joints. It becomes difficult to control body temperature in high humidity, which can increase swelling and pain in the joints. Apart from this, the amount of moisture present in the air increases due to humidity, which can reduce the absorption of calcium in the bones.

How does it affect the bones and joints?

swollen joints: Humidity increases the body temperature, which can cause swelling in the joints. Arthritis patients may face more problems in this season.

Bone weakness: Dampness can reduce calcium absorption in the bones, which can lead to weakened bones.

hamstring strain: Due to humidity, the problem of muscle strain and pain may increase.

Risk of infection: Moisture causes bacteria and fungus to grow rapidly, increasing the risk of infection.

How to stop this?

Take care of your diet. Take a diet rich in calcium and Vitamin D.

Exercise daily. Regular exercise strengthens bones and joints.

Drink adequate amount of water. This keeps the body temperature under control.

Try to avoid moisture as much as possible. Take measures to reduce humidity in the house.

If you already have joint pain then take medicines as per doctor's advice.

When to contact a doctor?

If you are having problems like severe pain, swelling, redness or fever in the joints, then contact the doctor immediately.
