Mumbai: Parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have experienced heavy rainfall in recent days. However, Mumbai enjoyed a break from the rain on Friday after two days of continuous downpours.

The water levels in Mumbai’s seven lakes surpassed the 70% threshold on Friday, marking a 5% increase from the previous day, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and the neighbouring Thane district for Saturday, forecasting moderate to heavy rain in certain areas. The expected maximum and minimum temperatures are around 30°C and 25°C, respectively.

The Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Center posted on X, “Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours: Moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 30°C and 25°C.”

The IMD has declared an orange alert for the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Satara in Maharashtra for Saturday, warning of the likelihood of heavy to hefty rainfall. Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli districts have also received an orange alert.

Districts under orange alert may experience heavy to weighty rain at isolated places. The IMD has announced no orange alert for any district in Maharashtra from July 28 to 30.

An orange alert advises authorities to prepare for heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours, while a red alert indicates the most critical situation with rainfall expected to exceed 204.5 mm within the same period.
