Dal ka Dulha is a traditional dish of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which is a unique blend of simplicity and taste. It is specially made in the winter season, as it provides warmth and energy to the body. The name of this dish is a bit interesting, and its origin is linked to folk tradition. It is often made on festivals or special occasions. This dish is mainly prepared with moong or tur dal and small laddu-like pieces made from flour.

Material:

– Arhar dal – 1 cup

– Wheat flour – 1 cup

– Salt – to taste

– Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon

– Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp

– Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

– Asafoetida – 1 pinch

– Ghee – 2 tablespoons

– Coriander leaves – finely chopped (for garnishing)

– Water – as needed

Method:

1. Preparation of lentils:

– First of all, wash the tur dal thoroughly and soak it for 30 minutes.

– Put the lentils in the cooker, add turmeric powder, salt and water as required and let it whistle 2-3 times so that the lentils get cooked well.

2. Preparing the Groom:

– Add some salt to the wheat flour and knead it hard.

– Now make small round balls of this dough like laddus or small balls of the size of a groom. Do not make them too big so that they can cook well in the dal.

3. Cook the lentils and groom:

– When the lentils are cooked in the cooker, open the lid of the cooker and add some more water and boil it.

– When the lentils start boiling well, add the prepared flour powder into it.

– Let it cook on low flame for 10-15 minutes, until the dough balls (dulha) are completely cooked. Keep stirring it lightly with a spoon in between so that the lentils and dulha do not stick together.

4. Tempering:

– Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida and let it crackle.

– Then prepare the tadka by adding red chili powder into it.

– Add this seasoning to the lentils and mix it well.

How to serve:

– Serve the Dal Dulhan hot and sprinkle green coriander on top. You can also eat it with rice or roti. This dish is nutritious and delicious.

Tips:

– You can increase or decrease the amount of ghee in dal dulhan as per your requirement.

– If you want to make it even healthier, you can make the dough by adding some gram flour or sattu to the flour.

conclusion:

Dal Ka Dulha is a traditional Indian dish that takes care of both health and taste. It is also very easy to make and can be enjoyed on special occasions or in winters.
