Singaporean authorities have fined a British woman S$5,000 (US$3,800) for shoplifting from multiple stores while transiting through Changi Airport en route to Bali.

Tanya Bridget Hughes, 36, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft in court on Thursday, according to Channel News Asia.

The incident took place on May 31, when Hughes arrived at Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 to wait for her connecting flight.

During her stay, she visited several high-end brand stores in the terminal, the South China Morning Post reported.

Surveillance footage showed Hughes stealing various items, including cosmetics, neck pillows, and other products, with a total value exceeding S$600, according to the indictment, adding that the thefts occurred over a span of nearly two hours.

She was caught in the act by security personnel and subsequently arrested.

Under Singaporean law, she could have faced up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.

Changi Airport, known for its world-famous attractions such as the tallest indoor waterfall, frequently ranks among the best airports globally. It is celebrated for its advanced amenities, including duty-free shopping, an indoor rainforest, and luxury accommodations.
