Recipe for making spicy black gram curry

If you want to try something new and tasty, then spicy black chickpea curry can be a great option for you. This recipe is a twist to the traditional kadhi, using black chickpeas, which makes this dish even more nutritious.

Material:

– 1 cup black chickpeas (soaked overnight)

– 1 cup curd (whipped)

– 2 tbsp gram flour (roast the gram flour well)

– 1 tablespoon mustard oil

– 1 tsp turmeric powder

– 1 tsp red chilli powder

– 1/2 tsp cumin

– 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds

– 2-3 dried red chillies

– 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

– Curry leaves (8-10)

– Salt to taste

– Water as needed

– Green coriander (for garnishing)

Method:

1. Boil black gram: Firstly, soak the black gram in water overnight. Next morning, boil them in a pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles so that they become soft.

2. Prepare the batter for the curry: Mix curd and roasted gram flour well in a bowl. Add some water to it and prepare a thin batter. Make sure that there are no lumps in the batter. Add turmeric, red chili powder and salt to this batter and mix well.

3. Prepare the Tadka: Heat mustard oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and dried red chilies. Then add ginger-garlic paste and curry leaves and fry until the aroma starts coming.

4. Add the batter: Now add the prepared batter of curd and gram flour to this tempering. Cook it on medium flame while stirring it so that the curry starts boiling. Slowly add boiled black gram to it.

5. Cook the Kadhi: Let the Kadhi cook on low flame for 15-20 minutes so that it gets flavourful and thickens. Keep stirring it in between so that the Kadhi does not stick to the bottom. If the Kadhi becomes too thick, you can add water to it.

6. Garnishing and serving: When the curry is cooked, remove it from the gas. Garnish with green coriander and serve hot spicy black gram curry with rice or roti.

Special Tips:

– To make the kadhi more spicy, you can add some dry mango powder or chaat masala to it.

– If you like it more spicy, you can also add green chillies in the tempering.
