In the 70s and 80s, there were some cars that would attract the attention of people if they passed by the road. These cars of Indian brands were the most popular in their time. One of such cars is Hindustan Ambassador. The Ambassador car was one of the most iconic cars in Indian automobile history. It was especially seen with prominent political figures, leaders, ministers and government officials.

It was produced from 1958 to 2014. Its strong body and comfortable ride made a place in the hearts of people and became their first choice.
The Premier Padmini comes in second place. In the 1970s and 80s, the Premier Padmini was one of the favourite cars of middle class families. People loved its stylish design. This car was mostly seen on the streets of Mumbai.

After this, Maruti 800 was launched in the year 1983. Its low price and fuel efficiency made it the choice of every middle class Indian. Maruti 800 has been one of the best selling cars in India.

Mahindra Jeep gained recognition for its strong performance in Indian rural and tough areas. It was used extensively by most of the army, police, and farmers.

Tata Indica was launched in 1998 and was India's first fully indigenous car. Its spacious interiors and good mileage made it extremely popular among Indian consumers.
