80 percent of faculty members in IIT-Bhubaneswar are upper caste, revealed in RTI

The debate regarding the representation of SC, ST, and OBC in the field of education has been going on for decades. But, this debate has intensified in the last few months. In such a situation, the news coming from IIT-Bhubaneswar can further intensify this debate. An RTI report has revealed that 80 percent faculty members in IIT-Bhubaneswar are from general category. Let us tell you in detail what the whole matter is.

Who filed the RTI

According to the report of The Hindu, Kiran Kumar Gaun, President of All India OBC Students Association, had filed an RTI, in which this was revealed. In fact, while responding to the RTI, IIT-Bhubaneswar officials said that there are a total of 300 posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors in the college. Out of these, people are working on 213 posts. Whereas, 95 posts are still vacant. Officials said that out of these 213 professors, associate professors and assistant professors, 171 employees are from the general category.

How many are from SC, ST and OBC

The same report further stated that out of these 213 professors, associate professors and assistant professors, 28 are from the OBC category. Apart from this, one faculty member is from the ST category and 12 faculty members are from the SC category. At the same time, one faculty member is from the EWS quota.

Same is the condition of Central Universities

Responding to a question asked in the Lok Sabha in the year 2022, the Union Education Ministry had said that in the 45 central universities of the country, there is only one Vice Chancellor each from SC and ST category. At the same time, out of 45 registrars, only two are from SC category, five from ST category and three from OBC category. Whereas, out of a total of 1005 professors, 864 are from the General category. At the same time, 69 are from Scheduled Caste, 15 from Scheduled Tribe and 41 from OBC community.
