'Phogat and Poonia were pawns of the Congress family,' Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh made a big allegation

Brij Bhushan Singh On Congress: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Saturday made a big claim about the Congress. He said that the Congress used wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as 'pawns' in its conspiracy to take control of the WFI and attack the BJP.

A day after Olympian wrestlers Phogat and Punia joined the Congress, senior BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh has made this big attack. He said that they had defeated Congress' Deepender Hooda in the 2012 Indian Wrestling Federation elections, so they have a grudge against them. Singh said that this team of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi keeps doing such things.

'The Congress family used them as pawns'

When asked about Phogat and Punia, two prominent faces of the sexual harassment protests, Brij Bhushan Singh said, "They were faces... they were pawns. Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Hooda, the Congress and the Congress family used them as pawns." He told PTI, "It was all a conspiracy to gain control of the WFI and attack the ideology of the BJP. This team of Rahul, the Congress keeps doing this kind of work."

Brij Bhushan Singh first gained control of the WFI in 2012 after a bitter battle with Deepender Hooda. He was in control of the organisation until protests began against him last year for allegedly sexually harassing and intimidating female wrestlers. Sakshi Malik, along with Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, led the movement.

Phogat got ticket from Julana of Haryana Assembly

After this, Brij Bhushan Singh, who was a six-time Lok Sabha member from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh, had to step down from the post of WFI chief. Currently, he is also facing criminal charges in the court. After his removal from the post, his close aide Sanjay Singh was elected as the head of WFI, but this organization has not yet received recognition from the Sports Ministry.

On Friday, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party. They said that they will continue their fight against Brij Bhushan Singh. Phogat had given a statement that no woman should have to endure what she had to endure. Congress has fielded Phogat from Julana seat of Haryana Assembly.

Sakshi Malik denies joining politics

When asked about this statement, Brij Bhushan Singh said, 'What happened to her (Phogat)? The incident she is alleging happened when I was in Lucknow. Only time will tell the truth.' Poonia has been made the working president of the All India Kisan Congress. On the contrary, Sakshi Malik refused to join politics and said that she would continue the movement without joining any organization.
