Let us tell you, the roots of 'International Literacy Day' are linked to the World Conference of Education Ministers on the Eradication of Illiteracy held in Tehran, Iran in 1965. This conference gave birth to the idea of ​​promoting literacy at the global level. After this, UNESCO officially declared September 8 as 'International Literacy Day' during its 14th General Conference in 1966.

A year later, on September 8, 1967, the world celebrated this special day for the first time, which started an important global observance. Since then, 'International Literacy Day' is celebrated every year on September 8 to remind policymakers, practitioners and the public of the importance of literacy in building a more literate, just, peaceful and sustainable society.
