Mumbai: Opposition parties have attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for attending the Ganpati Puja ceremony at Justice Chandrachud's residence. After this, the opposition parties are also raising questions on the loyalty of CJI Chandrachud. It is being said that Prime Minister Modi's visit to the CJI's house for a private function sends a message. In this matter, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has targeted the CJI. He has demanded to recuse himself from hearing the cases to Shiv Sena and NCP.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud should recuse himself from hearing the disqualification petitions to Shiv Sena and NCP MLAs. Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, made this demand amid the controversy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the Ganpati Puja ceremony at Justice Chandrachud's residence.

Raut told reporters that when “protectors of the Constitution meet politicians”, it creates doubts in the minds of people. “The Chief Justice of India should recuse himself from hearing the cases as his links with the Prime Minister have come to light. Can he give us justice?” he said.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena are embroiled in a legal dispute and the matter is in the Supreme Court following a split in the party founded by Bal Thackeray. “Our case is before Chief Justice Chandrachud. We doubt whether we will get justice or not because the Centre is a party in our case and the central government is headed by the Prime Minister,” Raut said.

Raut claimed that an “illegal government” has been in power in Maharashtra for three years, while the Chief Justice of India is held by a person like Chandrachud. “The CJI has said several times that the government is unconstitutional, but despite this, no verdict has been given yet, even though he is going to retire soon. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister visited his residence,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi visited Justice Chandrachud's residence on Wednesday on the occasion of Ganesh Utsav and performed puja. Raut wondered whether the Prime Minister's visit to Chandrachud's residence was in accordance with constitutional norms and protocol. He claimed that this suspicion has become stronger that “something is happening to save the government or completely finish off the NCP and Shiv Sena, and the help of the judiciary is being taken while doing so.” The case of last year's split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founded by Sharad Pawar is also in the Supreme Court.
