Health is an important part of everyone's life. No matter how much wealth you have, it does not matter if your health is poor. That's why many people opt for health insurance to protect themselves from medical expenses arising from diseases or sudden medical emergencies. Treatment of serious health conditions can cost a large part of a person's lifetime savings, which is why many people prefer to get health insurance.

However, not everyone can afford health insurance. To help the needy, the Government of India launched the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in 2018 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative aims to provide free healthcare up to Rs 5 lakh to underprivileged individuals. Beneficiaries of this scheme get Ayushman card. Here's how you can use an Ayushman card in case of a medical emergency.

How to use an Ayushman card in an emergency

If you are a beneficiary of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, you must have been issued an Ayushman card. In case of a medical emergency, you can get treatment at any government or private hospital listed under the scheme. Upon reaching the hospital, you need to locate the Ayushman Mitra help desk.

After reaching the help desk, you have to meet the designated officer and show them your Ayushman card. The officer will verify your card and once the verification is complete, you will be entitled to free medical treatment immediately. With the Ayushman card, you can get free healthcare up to ₹5 lakh.

How to get Ayushman card

To get an Ayushman card, visit your nearest Common Service Center (CSC). Speak to the officer in charge, who will check your eligibility for the scheme. If you are eligible, your documents will be verified and after the process is complete, your Ayushman card will be issued.
