Pagdis, Shawls, Shoes Of Paralympic Medal Winners, Ram Mandir Model: PM's Gifts To Be E-Auctioned From Tomorrow

Log on to portal https://pmmementos.gov.in and participate in an E-Auction – the 6th one so far- hosted by the Ministry of Culture which will commence from tomorrow i.e. September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, till the October 2, 2024.Among the 125 items up for auction, notable ones include pagris (headgears), shawls, ceremonial swords gifted to PM Modi, as well as shoes worn by Indian Paralympic medalists, including Silver Medalist Nishad Kumar, recently presented to the Prime Minister by the athletes.

All the items on offer will be on display at the National Gallery Of Modern Art (NGMA). “The items on offer encompass an array of traditional art forms, showcasing vibrant paintings, intricate sculptures, indigenous handicrafts, captivating folk and tribal artifacts. Among these treasures are items traditionally bestowed as symbols of honor and respect, including traditional angavastras, shawls, headgear and ceremonial swords”, said Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, at a press conference at the NGMA. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said the shoes worn by the Paralympic heroes are the most expensive item on E-auction.

Auction to benefit Namami Gange ProgrammeAs in previous years, the proceeds from this auction will support the noble Namami Gange Programme. This year's collection highlights religious artifacts, including intricately crafted temple models of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and Shree Dwarkadhish in Dwarka. The auction also features exquisite statues of Hindu deities, adding a spiritual essence to the remarkable exhibition.“Distinguished works of art such as Pichwai paintings and many others grace this collection. Notable items such as Khadi shawls, Silver Filigree, Mata Ni Pachedi Art, Gond Art and Madhubani Art add further depth to the offerings, representing the diverse cultural heritage of India”, he said

“Prime Minister Modi did this even when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He believes what comes from society should go back to the society. This is the sixth edition of the auction. Every year we collected on an average around Rs 12 Cr to 14 Cr in the auction and proceeds towards a noble cause like Namami Gange programme”, the minister told media persons

A poignant section of the auction pays tribute to India's valiant warriors and freedom fighters, celebrating the glorious chapters of our nation's history. A key feature of the auction is the sports memorabilia. This upcoming e-Auction marks the sixth installment in a series of successful auctions, initially launched by the Prime Minister's Office in January 2019.This flagship initiative of the Union Government is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of our national river, the Ganga, and the enhancement of its fragile ecosystem. The funds generated through this auction will provide support to this worthy cause, strengthening our commitment to preserving our national treasure.
