Wrexham's co-owner Rob McElhenney is gearing up for a star-studded encounter in League One as his team faces off against Birmingham City.

The Hollywood actor is set to grace the owners' box at St Andrew's for what promises to be an electrifying League One match on Monday. Wrexham, who have kicked off their season with an impressive unbeaten run and sit atop the table after five matches, will be looking to continue their winning streak.

Having secured consecutive promotions, Wrexham fans are left wondering if their team's remarkable form can withstand the challenge posed by Birmingham, the big spenders and pre-season favourites for the title.

Adding to the celebrity presence, NFL legend and New England Patriots icon Tom Brady is expected to be in attendance after purchasing a minority stake in Birmingham. McElhenney shared his whirlwind schedule at the Emmys ceremony held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, where he spoke about his immediate travel plans post-event.

Chatting on the red carpet, McElhenney said: "Directly after the Emmys I'm hopping on a plane and going out to Birmingham, England. "[We're going] to watch Wrexham play Tom Brady's team, Birmingham City. "

Brady has ambitious plans to return the Blues to the Premier League, alongside owner Tom Wagner. The last time Birmingham graced the top-flight was back in 2011, after spending seven out of the previous nine seasons there before their relegation to the Championship.

The Midlands club failed to secure an immediate return to the Premier League in their first season in the second-tier and remained there for 13 seasons. They eventually succumbed to relegation after nearly a decade of continuously fending it off.

When asked if he and Brady would have a "little side bet going on" for the match between the two clubs, McElhenney responded: "We're not legally allowed to bet on the games but we have fun, we have social media and whatnot."

The star of Always Sunny also revealed that Inter Miami owner and England legend David Beckham would be attending the fixture. "I'll be joining him and I believe Mr David Beckham will be there as well - we should have a good time," McElhenney said.

Wrexham are currently leading the table heading into the Monday clash, while Birmingham sit in 6th place with three wins and one draw. Chris Davies' team have played one game less than the rest of the league and could draw level on points with Wrexham if they secure a win.

The Blues have broken the third-tier transfer record in a determined effort to bounce back to the Championship, snapping up striker Jay Stansfield from Fulham after his standout performance for the club despite their demotion last season. Joint-league top scorer Alfie May is also causing headaches for Wrexham, with the ex-non-league sharpshooter netting more goals in 2023 than Manchester City's superstar Erling Haaland.
