John Textor’s potential takeover as the new owner of Everton Football Club received a boost recently as he received the backing of US investment firm Aliya Capital Partners. 

The American businessman, who is the Executive Chairman of FuboTV, announced that he was making progress with the club in reaching a deal. Aliya Capital Partners’ backing will go a long way to helping finalise an agreement. 

The investment firm told BBC Sport: “We are delighted to support John Textor in his investment in Everton Football Club.

“Having collaborated with John over many years, and witnessed close hand his immensely successful venture with Botafogo, we view him not only as a partner but as a close friend.

“Our involvement in Everton reflects our shared commitment to innovation and transformation in football. We eagerly anticipate Everton’s ascent under John’s visionary leadership.”

Aliya manages more than $1bn in assets and has provided financial backing to many companies. Its most recent investment was helping to fund the US gambling company Betr, having also invested in supporting Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter in 2022.

Textor may also not only have Aliya onboard for his purchase of Everton as according to The Sun, he is looking to gain the support of hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Jay-Z as an investor. 

Jay-Z’s reported net worth stands currently at $2.5bn and is no stranger to sports ownership. He held a minority stake in the Brooklyn Nets, selling his share of the NBA team in 2013. 

However, before Textor can complete his acquisition of Everton, he must sell his 45% stake in fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace to avoid failing the league’s ‘Fit and Proper Owner’s Test’.Textor also has stakes in other European football clubs, such as Olympique Marseille, as well as in South America with Botafogo.
