Action will be taken against those who sell fertilizers and other products to farmers, Punjab government formed 4 teams

The Punjab government has taken a big step for the benefit of farmers in the state. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian held a meeting with the Majha Kisan Sangharsh Samiti in his office and formed four teams to take action against those selling fertilizers and other products to farmers. The Agriculture Minister assured the delegation led by Balwinder Singh, head of the Majha Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, that Punjab has sufficient quantity of DAP/NPK/SSP available for the upcoming Rabi season. Punjab is receiving sufficient quantity of DAP and other phosphatic fertilizers.

On the issue of forcefully selling other agricultural products along with fertilizers by the farmers' delegation, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will not tolerate exploitation of farmers. He said that if any person forces farmers to buy other products along with fertilizers, then strict legal action will be taken against him.

During this, Special Chief Secretary (Agriculture) KAP Sinha said that wheat is expected to be sown in about 35 lakh hectares of area in Punjab, for which about 5.50 lakh metric tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer is needed. He said that last month, he had a meeting with the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers to ensure the necessary supply of fertilizers for the farmers of Punjab for the upcoming Rabi season.

Speaking on the demand for increase in sugarcane prices, the Agriculture Minister said that the state has scheduled a meeting with the State Sugarcane Control Board on September 27 and all the mills will start crushing at the scheduled time. He also informed that the capacity of the cooperative sugar mill of Batala has been increased from 1500 crushing per day (TCD) to 3500 tonnes TCD.
