New Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday made serious allegations against the central government, blaming it for the floods in the state. She accused the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of deliberately creating a flood situation in the state. Mamata Banerjee said that due to the release of water from its dams by DVC, flood situation has arisen in many districts of the state. The Chief Minister claimed that adequate dredging of the Maithon and Panchet dams of Damodar Valley Corporation was not done, due to which the water storage capacity has decreased by 36 percent. She says that due to this negligence, water had to be released from the dams, which created the problem of floods in many parts of West Bengal. Mamata termed it a 'man-made flood' and said that there is a deep conspiracy behind it.

Mamata announces a big movement

Chief Minister Banerjee warned that if the central government did not take the matter seriously, a big movement would be launched against it. He said, “This is not rain water but water released by DVC, a central government organization. This is a man-made flood and it is unfortunate.”

The Chief Minister tried to communicate with the Centre several times regarding this problem, but the Centre did not listen to her. Mamata Banerjee alleged that this year DVC released 5.5 lakh cusecs of water, due to which the flood situation has become more serious.

Ban imposed on Jharkhand-Bengal border

Banerjee, while visiting the flood-affected areas, announced that the Jharkhand-Bengal border will be closed for three days. She said that the decision to stop vehicles coming from Jharkhand has been taken because the roads near the border are flooded, which can increase the risk to life and property.

Along with this, the Chief Minister has also threatened to break all ties with DVC. He said, “I tried to inform the Central Government three times on the issue of water release by DVC, but we were ignored. So now we have decided to end all our relations with DVC.”

Preparations for relief for flood affected people

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the administration to provide relief material to all the people affected by the floods as soon as possible. She said that the state government is making every possible effort to ensure that the flood-affected people do not face any kind of trouble.
