In the first match of the ODI series at Trent Bridge, left-handed opener Travis Head hit a career-high 154 not out to lead Australia to a comfortable seven-wicket victory against England. In addition to giving Australia a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, the victory occurred on Adam Zampa’s 100th ODI appearance, during which he scored three hundred and fifty runs.

Head’s 154 not out off 129 balls, his sixth ODI century complete with 20 fours and five sixes, became the greatest individual score by an Australian men’s player in England as Australia defeated England’s target of 316 in six overs.

In an incredible runfest at Nottingham, Marnus Labuschagne struck 77 not out off 61 balls with seven fours and two sixes, and he and Head put up a partnership of 148 off only 107 balls for the fourth wicket.

There were several challenges both on and off the field that Australia had to overcome to win. Illness kept Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood out of the game, while rookie Ben Dwarshuis injured his pectoral muscle on the field after bowling just four overs with numbers of 1-18.

Ben Duckett, the opening batsman for England, had a significant impression with his breathtaking strokes until Marnus Labuschagne calmly caught and bowled him for 95 (91). Later in the innings, Labuschagne claimed stand-in English captain Harry Brook (39 off 31 balls) and Jofra Archer (4), amassing his best ODI statistics of 3/39 in six overs.

With 62 (56) and 34 from rookie Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks helped set a challenging standard for Australia. Head had significant partnerships in the chase, scoring 76 with Steve Smith and 73 with Cameron Green, before Australia won easily thanks to his match-winning stand with Labuschagne.

Brief Scores: Australia 317/3 in 44 overs (Travis Head 154 not out, Marnus Labuschagne 77 not out, Jacob Bethell 1-20) defeated England 315 all out in 49.4 overs (Ben Duckett 95, Will Jacks 62; Marnus Labuschagne 3-39, Adam Zampa 3-49) by seven wickets.
