Over 600 foreign arrivals were denied entry at airports across the country due to invalid documents during the first half of this year, 70% of the full-year 2023 number.

This causes losses to carriers, puts pressure on airports and poses potential risks of security, safety, and order at airports and on planes, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said as cited by Vietnam News Agency.

In 2020, 506 foreigners were refused entry into Vietnam, followed by 404 in 2022, and 886 last year, the authority added.

To reduce the number of passengers denied entry, aviation authorities have instructed airlines operating regular international flights to Vietnam to strictly check documents of passengers entering or transiting in Vietnam.

Vietnam has received 11.4 million foreign visitors so far this year, 1% more than in pre-Covid years. For the full year it targets 18 million.
