On day two of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, India defeated Bangladesh to 112/8 in 36.5 overs at tea thanks to additional wickets taken by Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj.

Bangladesh dropped a tonne of wickets in the second session, losing five more batsmen, and now trail India by a massive 264 runs. Meanwhile, a blistering Bumrah became the sixth Indian pacer to reach 400 wickets in an international match.

After lunch, Siraj received a ball that held its line and sent Najmul Hossain Shanto’s bat’s outside edge straight to the third slip. Bumrah got the ball to move late in the subsequent over and took a good edge off of Mushfiqur Rahim’s poke to second slip. Bangladesh’s fortunes were sealed by Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan, despite the bowlers’ unrelenting lengths and lines.

After the pair unleashed delicious drives off Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash Deep, Shakib grabbed on to loose deliveries from Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin to get further boundaries.

Das attempted to sweep off an outside off-stump ball from Jadeja at deep backward square leg, but it got the top edge and fell for 22. This broke the 51-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Shakib attempted a reverse sweep in Jadeja’s subsequent over, but it ricocheted off his shoe, allowing Rishabh Pant to sprint forward and comfortably grab the ball. Before Bumrah got the former to push at an outside off ball, Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz lingered for striking three boundaries. At the stroke of tea, the heavy outside edge was collected by second slip.

after brief, India leads Bangladesh 112/8 after 36.5 overs (Shakib Al Hasan 32, Jasprit Bumrah 3-28, Ravindra Jadeja 2-18) by 264 runs after scoring 376 in 91.2 overs (Ravichandran Ashwin 113, Ravindra Jadeja 86, Hasan Mahmud 5-83, Taskin Ahmed 3-55).
