Indian pacer Akash Deep contributed 17 runs with the bat registering his highest Test score as India folded for 376 against Bangladesh on Day 2 of the first Test. Akash Deep scored a couple of boundaries which left the Indian batters impressed, however, similar to Rishabh Pant who had an argument with Litton Das after being struck by a wayward throw, Akash Deep also copped a blow.Shortly before his dismissal, Akash Deep was struck by a rogue throw from Hasan Mahmud who picked up a fifer, becoming the first Bangladesh pacer to achieve the feat in India. The throw hit the Indian batter and Akash Deep needed the attention of the physios. The game was paused for a while and after the physios left the pitch, Hasan Mahmud seemed to have a word with Akash Deep, likely apologizing for the wayward throw. While the Indian batter was down being tended by the physios, the dugout broke out into laughter with Virat Kohli saying something that sparked a laugh, Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill were all left in splits.

Shortly afterward, the Indian team folded for a total of 376 runs after Ravichandran Ashwin's century and a blazing 86-run knock from Ravindra Jadeja. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal had slammed a half-century while Rishabh Pant also contributed 39 runs to the cause. India were 34/3 at one stage after losing Rohit, Virat, and Shubman cheaply, after which Jaiswal and Pant helped the hosts recover from the shaky start. As Bangladesh set out to chase the mountain total, they were pegged back by an early blow from Jasprit Bumrah who dismissed Shadnam Islam in the first over itself. Akash Deep also joined the party getting two wickets in two balls when he got rid of Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque.

The youngster cleaned up Zakir Hasan with an in-swinging delivery before he castled Haque on a first-ball duck leaving Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel impressed. The Bangla Tigers finished the first session at 26/3 after nine overs, trailing India's score by 350 runs before Lunch on Day 2.
