Enjoying a hotel stay can mean more than just a well-made bed and being pampered.
You often wake up to a view far superior to the familiar scene outside your bedroom window. And, as for the added perks of a night away, you can also bag some bargains.
Brits are savvy to the tradition of grabbing a few hotel freebies to save some quid and pick up some pleasant extras. But it's important to know the etiquette as to what's fair game to pocket.
A recent TikTok video by costoflivingcrisistips confirmed which items are up for grabs after your stay. It seems there's a decent haul to be had that's all yours for the taking.
If it's provided for your use in the room, generally it's yours to claim. This includes tea bags, coffee sachets and sugar packets awaiting your indulgence.

In his TikTok commentary, he shared: "It's all complimentary and they expect you to use it in your stay, so I don't think they'll have an issue with you taking that stuff. But, what else can you take? Well, in hotel rooms there's not a lot of stuff. There's this disposable bag, I'll take that. I'll definitely take the toilet roll."
He recommended steering clear of items like towels, robes and coat hangers though, as swiping these is frowned upon since they're deemed property of the hotel. In contrast, toiletries such as soaps and shower gels are perfectly acceptable to slip into your luggage.
TripSavvy backs this approach, confirming that complimentary means it's alright to pack it up with you. They even highlighted that slippers are disposed of when you leave, so you may as well keep them.
You're typically in the clear to swipe stationery, pens, notepaper, postcards and envelopes from your hotel room - they're usually emblazoned with the hotel's logo, which serves as good advertising for the establishment.
Cheeky guests have lifted items like towels, irons, hairdryers, blankets and even pillows from their hotel getaways. More audacious thefts include cable boxes, clocks, artwork, ashtrays, lightbulbs, TV remotes and sometimes even a Bible.
But - be warned - these possessions are strictly off-limits as they're the property of the hotels and are expected to stay put. Make sure you're savvy about what treasures you tuck into your luggage and check with the front desk if you have any doubts.
