Marco Silva outlines demands to Fulham stars after "frustrating" double blow

Marco Silva has demanded a reaction from his Fulham side after their marathon penalties defeat at Championship Preston.

The Cottagers exited the Carabao Cup after finding themselves on the wrong end of a 16-15 shoot-out - the longest in the competition’s history. That loss came on the back of last Saturday’s disappointment when they squandered two points after conceding a 95th-minute equaliser against West Ham.

Boss Silva admits he had his sights set on repeating last season’s run to the last four of the League Cup - and is now targeting a boost against Newcastle on Saturday. The Portuguese said: “Going out in the way we did was frustrating for us.

"We cannot hide that situation, it was a difficult night for us. We should have kept ourselves in the competition. Now the one way to keep moving forwards is to react as a team.

“Newcastle is a stern challenge and we want to react from Tuesday evening. We need a reaction as a team and we will react for sure.” Fulham have won just one of their opening four league games but Silva has no doubt they are on the right track.

He added: “Our performances have been good, even against West Ham. We were in command of the game until the last minute. But there is still room for improvement.”
