One of cricket’s most devastating hitters, Australian David Warner, is now all focused on racking up runs at the gorgeous Harare Sports Club. Nevertheless, Sikandar Raza is optimistic that in the second Zim Afro T10, one of the Zimbabwean cricketers would be able to surpass the world-class players.

“We have attracted a lot more international cricketers, with the likes of David Warner, one of the main signings of the season this year,” Raza remarked, expressing optimism that the second season can live up to the high caliber of cricket that was on exhibit in the first edition. Given the acquisitions that T10 made this year for each of the six teams, there’s no doubt that this competition will be very interesting.

“But more importantly, I’m hoping, praying, and wishing that it’s a Zimbabwean who takes the most wickets, catches the most runs, and scores the most runs because I’m looking forward to that because the growth of Zimbabwean cricket in this tournament is very important,” declared the captain of Zimbabwe.

The sole Zimbabwean selected as the Global Icon for the NYS Lagos is pacer Blessing Muzarabani; Warner is among the major additions, along with Dawid Malan, James Neesham, Colin Munro, and others. And the captain of his country is really pleased about that.

“Yes, I’m thrilled about it. Blessing has performed really well in the last year and has now earned the right to be considered a global icon as well. I don’t care who represents Zimbabwe; what matters to me is that there must be representation. I’m really glad and proud of Blessing,” he said.

“I know I am on a different team from last season, but the mentality is the same,” said Raza, one of the star players in the first season of the thrilling and fast-paced Zim Afro T10.

The ideal thing would be to win the trophy, and it would be great if I could help it win. Cricket is a team sport, but it also showcases individual talent, so if I can help the team win, it would mean a lot.

Raza also had a message for the younger Zimbabwean players. In practice, Raza was hitting the ball clean and easily blasting it well into the stands. As much as you can, have fun, and absorb as much knowledge and wisdom as you can. It is advisable to make the most of your time with the foreign players, since they are only in the area for a day or two.

Try to study all you can; you’ll find that doing so will enable you to apply what you’ve learned to your own development and improve as a cricket player.

Raza, one of the most seasoned competitors on the world scene at the moment, thinks the T10 format has a promising future. He finished by saying, “T10 is a format that can definitely take cricket to the Olympic Games.”
