In match no. 21 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Guyana Amazon Warriors clinched a crucial 30-run victory against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 21. Shamar Joseph's exceptional all-round performance was the main reason behind the side's win.

The game began with Guyana Amazon Warriors batting first and posting a competitive total of 137/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Left-hand batter Shimron Hetmyer smashed a blistering 63 off just 33 balls, including four boundaries and five sixes. Despite Ashmead Nedd's impressive bowling figures of 4/25 for the Patriots, Hetmyer's aggressive innings provided a solid finish for the Warriors.

Chasing a target of 138, the Patriots' innings was hindered by a moment of brilliance from Joseph. In the 15th over, Joseph produced a stunning run-out with the match hanging in the balance. As Evin Lewis dabbed a shortish delivery towards the off-side, Joseph sprinted towards the ball, picked it up with one hand, and effected a direct hit at the striker's end, catching Rilee Rossouw short of his crease.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots suffered their eighth consecutive defeat

The run-out triggered a collapse, with the Patriots losing their last six wickets for a mere 16 runs. Joseph also had a brilliant day with the ball in his hand, complemented by claiming three wickets for just nine runs in 2.3 overs.

Evin Lewis top-scored for the Patriots with 49 off 46 balls, but a lack of support from his teammates led to their downfall. The Warriors' bowling attack, spearheaded by Joseph and supported by Moeen Ali's economical spell of 2/9, dismantled the Patriots to 107 in 18.3 overs.

This victory propelled the Warriors to the second spot on the points table, while the Patriots suffered their eighth consecutive defeat in the tournament. Hetmyer was awarded the Player of the Match for his crucial half-century.
