Bengaluru Cop Averts Major Accident After Bus Driver Carrying 40 Passengers Suffers Chest Pain Mid-Route

Bengaluru: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of traffic police jumped into a BMTC bus when he saw the vehicle slowing down. Upon entering the bus, the police official saw the driver holding his chest with one hand, and the steering with the another. He immediately stopped the bus by applying handbrakes in CBD area, averting a major accident. According to the officials, the bus was carrying around 40 passengers, and was near Shantinagar Circle when the incident took place. The bus was heading to Majestic, as per the officials. The incident took place on KH Road near Shantinagar Circle at 3.45 pm when the bus started to slow down. Anticipating that the bus could a major traffic jam if it stopped or worse if it would be driven haphazardly, ASI Raghu Kumar rushed into the bus, and found out that he was having a chest pain. Conductor of the bus who was busy issuing tickets also joined Kumar. "The driver was experiencing severe chest pain, so he slowed down the bus to prevent any accidents. We took the driver to a nearby private hospital with the help of head constable Prasanna Kumar from the Ashokanagar traffic police. Doctors confirmed that the driver’s chest pain was due to gastric issues, not a heart problem," Kumar told TOI.

They also arranged alternative buses for the passengers to reach their destinations.The Bengaluru city traffic police praised Raghu Kumar for his quick thinking and timely actions, which prevented a potential accident. In response to the traffic police's social media post, an X user, Damodara Bhat, praised Raghu Kumar, calling him a ‘role model for others’ and saying his sense of humanity and social responsibility was truly admirable.
