Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: Congress leader Randeep Surjewala's son Aditya Surjewala has been fielded from Haryana's Kaithal, a seat from where his father has previously been an MLA. The youngest candidate in fray for the Haryana Assembly elections, Aditya Surjewala, has been busy campaigning for the Kaithal seat, eyeing a successful political debut. In an exclusive conversation with ABP News, Aditya Surjewala expressed his desire to join the Cabinet if Congress forms a government in Haryana.

Aditya said that he got to learn from the experience of his grandfather and father, which he will utilise in developing not just Kaithal but Haryana as well. "We would like to move beyond Kaithal and work in Haryana. However, a lot of work is pending in Kaithal. We will make it beautiful and safe," he stated.

Aditya Surjewala's father was narrowly defeated by BJP's Leela Ram in the 2019 Assembly elections by 1,246 votes. However, Randeep had won Kaithal in the 2009 and 2014 polls. In 2005, Aditya Surjewala's grandfather Shamsher Singh Surjewala had also won from the Kaithal seat.

He claimed that the grand old party will win at least 75 seats easily, breaking Devi Lal's record. Devi Lal had won the 1977 Haryana Assembly elections, securing 75 out of the 90 seats. He was the fifth Chief Minister of Haryana.

On being asked about his election campaign in Kaithal, he said he has been receiving support from his colleagues in the constituency. He hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the state for "ruining" the city and stressed that Congress would bring change.

"Election campaign is going on well here and the workers are working hard. Everyone wants change. They want to see their city beautiful again. BJP has ruined our city. We will bring change," he said.

Responding to whether it will be challenging to win elections in Kaithal against BJP, Surjewala said that it depends on the voters' choice to decide whom they would elect. He emphasised that the people whom he had met during the poll campaigning were all "fed up" of the BJP-led government. "BJP has not done any work. Roads are broken. Electricity poles are broken. They cannot replace electric bulbs," he added.

The 25-year-old Congress candidate said changing the face of the city was not required, but instead his aim is to complete the pending work in Kaithal. He assured that he would fight for employment and increase jobs in both government and private sectors, if voted to power.

"We will complete the pending work. We will complete the repair work. We will fight for employment. We will try to bring employment in government and private sectors," the junior Surjewala said.

When asked about who will be Congress's CM face, Surjewala said that the party and the MLAs will decide abou it together and whoever is named by the high command will be elected as the CM candidate.

Commenting on his father Randeep Surjewala contesting the Haryana polls, Aditya said: "Everyone has ambitions. The one who is the most hardworking, who is a down to earth MLA, who listens to everyone and who can once again make Haryana the number one small state, will become the CM."

He further criticised the BJP saying that the saffron party is giving the city's throne to goons and has tied the hands of the police in the state. "We will help the police. We will put the goons back in jail. When my father was an MLA, people were afraid of him because we used to fight for justice," he said, responding to his plans for handling women's safety in his constituency if he wins.
