Assembly elections are proposed in Maharashtra and Jharkhand at the end of this year. The Election Commission has started its preparations for this. Amidst indications of simultaneous assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the Election Commission may visit these states next week. Sources have given this information.

According to sources, the Election Commission will visit both the states next week and review the election preparations. At the same time, the Election Commission under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will visit Jharkhand on 23-24 September. While on 27-28 September, the Election Commission will review the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. Officials of the Central Election Commission will reach Mumbai on 26 September.

Elections may be held between the first and second week of November

On September 27, the Election Commission will hold meetings with various political parties and departmental officials. Along with this, on the last day of its tour on September 28, the Election Commission team will hold a meeting with all the district collectors and SPs of Maharashtra and discuss election preparations. The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is ending on November 26 this year.

According to sources, assembly elections may be held in Maharashtra soon. The announcement of election dates in Maharashtra is possible on the last day of the three-day visit of the Election Commission. Election Commission officials will hold a press conference in Mumbai on September 28 at 4.30 pm. During this time, the Election Commission can announce the date of elections in Maharashtra between the first and second week of November.

Elections will be held in Jharkhand along with Maharashtra - sources

Before this, the Election Commission team will visit Jharkhand on 23-24 September. According to sources, Jharkhand assembly elections will be held along with Maharashtra. For this, the Election Commission will take stock of the election preparations during the Jharkhand tour. The term of the 5th Jharkhand Assembly is going to end on 5 January 2025.

The last assembly elections in Jharkhand were held in November-December 2019. There are a total of 81 assembly seats in the state. At present, there is a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led government of Hemant Soren in the state. Hemant Soren is also a part of the India Alliance which includes Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Hemant Soren-led alliance won 47 out of a total of 81 seats. JMM got 30, Congress 16 and RJD got one seat. BJP got 25, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) 3, All Jharkhand Students Union 2 and CPIM and Nationalist Congress Party got one seat each.
