Bengaluru: In the future, it is likely that a corridor is built between Bengaluru, India's IT hub and San Francisco that would be used for covering a range of collaborations including Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors and more. Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Priyank Garge recently met the United States Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti and discussed several prospects for the city.He also shared a post on social media platform X and said their discussion covered a range of topics, including, "Establishing city-specific corridors for AI, semiconductors, skilling, and more. Expanding the presence of American Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Karnataka. Strengthening ties with American trade partners such as AMCHAM and USIBC. Encouraging participation of American companies in the Bengaluru Tech Summit."He said a key focus of the conversation was the importance of setting up a US Consulate in Bengaluru, which would "significantly boost trade and investment relations, streamline access to visas, passports, and other critical consular services, enhance bilateral cultural exchanges, educational collaborations, and people-to-people ties and provide essential support to the large American expatriate community in the city."The minister added that the establishment of a US Consulate in Bengaluru would be a valuable asset to the city's diplomatic landscape. Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Karnataka minister said that the US Ambassador assured him, that steps would be prioritised for establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru. Kharge said he believes this would create job opportunities for Kannadigas and also increase visa availability for students from Karnataka and South India.Ambassador Eric Garcetti said that establishing a consulate in Karnataka and Bengaluru is a natural choice, as Karnataka is now the world's fourth-largest technology hub. He highlighted the technological similarities between the US and Karnataka, stressing that Bengaluru ranks fifth globally in the AI sector and that the state is third in skill development and AI capabilities. The US Ambassador added that Karnataka's leadership in biotechnology, aerospace, and defense, positioning it as an ideal destination for investment and business.
