There are thousands IIT success stories floating around, but while most of these stories end with the IITian landing a corporate job with a hefty paycheck, there are a few who do not take the predictable corporate route and instead channel their entrepreneurial spirit to build something unique of their own which brings them fame and fortune.One such shining example is our today IIT success story subject, Sandeep Jain, an IIT-Roorkee alum who founded GeeksforGeeks– an EdTech platform currently worth over $10 million (around Rs 84 crore).However, success did not come easy for Sandeep Jain as he had to claw and crawl his way to the top to achieve his goal of establishing a thriving business.Sandeep Jain education, early lifeBorn in a middle-income household in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad city, Sandeep Jain completed his schooling in his hometown and then earned a B.Tech degree from the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University — a tier-3 engineering college in Lucknow– in 2004. After completing his engineering degree, Sandeep joined the prestigious IIT-Roorkee where he earned his M.Tech degree in engineering.Sandeep Jain careerAfter completing his education, Sandeep Jain started working for a leading US-based software firm from 2007 till 2010 when he left the corporate job and started a career in education.Jain was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, and it was during his brief stint as an educator when he came to the realization that lack of resources and quality education plagues millions of students in India and across the world.Building ‘GeeksforGeeks’Following his profound ‘epiphany’, Jain started his arduous journey towards establishing GeekforGeeks, an EdTech platform, which he had initially started as a blog in 2008, according to LinkedIn profile.“I realized the need to help millions of students who struggle with the same issues. I quit my lucrative tech job and started GeeksforGeeks as a blog in 2008, with the intention of helping engineering students prepare for placements,” Jain writes in his LinkedIn bio.Soon, Jain’s blog which was dedicated to clarifying intricate computer science concepts, evolved into a comprehensive online learning platform, offering in-depth educational resources to students.Today, Geeks for Geeks has morphed into a prominent name in the EdTech arena, boasting over 20 million registered users across the world. It has offices in  Noida, Bengaluru and Pune, and Jain has revealed that he plants to expand the platform’s offline footprint in the near future.What began as a simple blog clarifying intricate computer science concepts rapidly became a comprehensive online platform offering in-depth educational resources and later evolved into a digital education platform with its wings in Noida, Bengaluru and Pune.GeeksforGeeks, which reported an annual turnover of $10 million in the year 2023, has inked partnership deals with tech giants such as Google Developers, Amazon, and Microsoft, and also helped aspiring engineers land lucrative positions in these companies.
