'Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra…' This dialogue is from the 1973 Raj Kapoor directed movie 'Bobby'. And the actor who immortalised this one-line dialogue is Prem Chopra, who played the villain in this movie. His one-line dialogue became so famous that it can be heard even after 51 years.

Many actors working in the film industry have definitely played such a character in their career, for which they are known for life. This film and the character of Prem Chopra played in it did the same thing for him. He cannot be forgotten for this film even if one wants to. This film made him so famous that once he was going somewhere by train and there was a crowd of fans at every station to hear his dialogues. Because of this, the train had to be stopped at every station.

What did Prem Chopra tell?

23rd September is Prem Chopra's birthday. He has turned 89. On this occasion, let us tell you about that incident and know why the train had to be stopped. Prem Chopra himself had told about this in an interview. In an interview given to Bollywood Bubble, he had said, "People had come to know at every station that Prem Chopra sahab is in this train. Now it was a fast train, but the train had to be stopped at every station, because a huge crowd had gathered at every station."

He further said, "I was requested to come out and speak the dialogue otherwise they would not let the train run. So I came out. Then I was told to speak in the same style. I used to speak the dialogue in the same style." He told that this practice was going on at almost every station.

How did you get work in Bobby?

Prem Chopra started his career with the film 'Mud Mudkar Na Dekh' released in the year 1960. After that he did some more films. Once he met Raj Kapoor at a party. Where he got the offer of the film 'Bobby'. Raj Kapoor saw him and said that you are going to work in my next film. On hearing this, Prem Chopra got curious and asked about his role. However, Raj Kapoor did not tell him about his character.

The shooting of the film also started, but Raj Kapoor did not tell him about his character. One day while shooting on the set, he was told that he has only one dialogue in this entire film. And that dialogue is this - 'Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra'. He was very sad to know that he has only one dialogue. But after the release of the film, this dialogue of his became famous. Anyway, Prem Chopra was last seen in the film 'Animal' released in the year 2023, in which he played the role of Ranbir Kapoor's distant grandfather.
