With a commanding 5-1 victory against Villarreal on the road, FC Barcelona extended their winning streak to six games. However, the victory came at a high cost, as goalkeeper Ter Stegen may have sustained a season-ending knee injury.

Two minutes into the second half, after two goals from Robert Lewandowski had placed Barcelona ahead and one back for the home team via Ayoze Perez, Ter Stegen was hurt while claiming a corner.

Just before the hour mark, Pablo Torre gave Barca their third goal; two more goals were added by Raphinha in the 74th and 83rd minutes.

Atletico Madrid again performed below their summer expenditure budget, dropping points in a 1-1 draw away to Rayo Vallecano, according to Xinhua.

Conor Gallagher leveled for Atletico after the interval, cementing Isi Palazon’s outstanding strike that put Rayo ahead and elevating his stature at the team even more.

With their third victory in a week, Athletic Bilbao moves up to third place after defeating Celta 3-1 at home.

Athletic took the lead thanks to a flick from Gorka Guruzeta in the fourth minute, but Iago Aspas equalized in the 25th minute from the penalty spot.

After 39 minutes, Guruzeta’s second goal of the match gave Athletic a lead again, and ten minutes before the end, Alvaro Djalo’s first goal for the team completed the victory.

Jorge Saenz’s goal for Leganes seven minutes earlier was cancelled out by Borja Mayoral’s penalty kick in the 83rd minute, drawing Getafe and Leganes to a 1-1 draw in the derby between the two teams earlier in the day.

Vinicius Jr. assisted Real Madrid in defeating Espanyol 4-1 at home on Saturday.

After Thibaut Courtois mishandled a low cross into his own goal to give Espanyol the lead in the 54th minute, Dani Carvajal equalized four minutes later thanks to some shoddy defense.

In the 75th minute, Vinicius found Rodrygo with a precise cross to score Madrid’s second goal. Three minutes later, Espanyol gave up a cheap midfield corner for Madrid’s third goal.

In the last minute, Kylian Mbappe scored Madrid’s fourth goal with a penalty kick after Endrick was hauled back.
