Former Indian wrestler Sangram Singh made a stunning start to his side career in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), winning the Gama International Fighting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, against 17-year-old Ali Raza Nasir of Pakistan. By recording the quickest victory ever by an Indian fighter in the 93 kg class, Sangram made history.

Samgram, who was up in Madina Village, Rohtak, Haryana, started playing sports with Delhi Police in 1999. He successfully won a bronze medal while competing for Delhi Police in the All India Police Games in 2005 at Chawla, New Delhi. Following a bout in South Africa in 2012, World Wrestling Professionals (WWP) named him the World’s Best Professional Wrestler.

After winning the WWP Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship in July 2015, Sangram defeated Joe Legend in the Port Elizabeth, South Africa, “Last Man Standing” match. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave him a round of applause in the Indian Parliament after this victory.

Sangram Singh competed in Season 7 of Bigg Boss
Sangram competed in season 7 of Bigg Boss and was among the finals. He first got along with his future wife, Payal Rohatgi, on this program. In a customary ceremony, Sangram married Payal in July of 2022.

Sangram Singh performed better than expected in his octagon debut for the India vs. Pakistan event, exceeding expectations about his easy transition from wrestling to mixed martial arts. Sangram demonstrated his grappling prowess and tactical awareness to win decisively. Singh has a history in traditional wrestling and a steadfast commitment to his training.

After winning, Sangram said, “I am incredibly proud to bring this victory home for India.” “This win is a positive start toward a brighter future for mixed martial arts in India. It goes beyond individual success. I’m hoping that the recognition of mixed martial arts (MMA) on a worldwide level would spur the Indian government to enact policies that encourage MMA and encourage young people to take up the sport. This will undoubtedly inspire a lot of young athletes to discover their inner power, aim for excellence, and conquer challenges in the mixed martial arts community.

This momentous win highlights not just Sangram’s personal achievement but also the growing recognition of Indian competitors within the global mixed martial arts community.
