LLC 2024: Southern Superstars’ first victory features De Silva and Pawan Negi

At the Barkatullah Khan Stadium here on Monday, the Southern Superstars defeated the Gujarat Greats by a margin of 26 runs to win their first game in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024. Chathuranga de Silva played a crucial inning at bat, while Pawan Negi had an economical spell.

Southern Superstars’ innings were begun by Parthiv Patel and Martin Guptil after they lost the toss and were placed to bat first. Parthiv Patel was out for 4 from 9 balls after the pair put up 29 for the first wicket.

Guptil was then joined in the middle by Hamilton Masakadza. Guptil added 22 from 27 balls at the same time. Masakadza made 20 points off of 12 balls. Dinesh Karthik, the skipper, scored 18 out of 19 balls. In a crucial innings, Chathuranga de Silva scored 53* off of 28 balls without losing, enabling his side to post a total of 144/9 in 20 overs.

Manan Sharma, who took 6/17 in 4 overs, was the standout bowler for the Gujarat Greats. Throughout the innings, Liam Plunkett and Seekkuge Prasanna each claimed one wicket.

Morne van Wyk and Gujarat Greats captain Shikhar Dhawan started the innings, chasing a score of 145 on the board. Shikhar Dhawan made 52 from 48 balls, while van Wyk scored 15 from 19 balls. Manan Sharma scored 10 from only 4 balls. Lendl Simmons (7) and Mohammad Kaif (5) were removed cheaply throughout the game; therefore, they were unable to make much of an impact. With 12 balls, impact player Yashpal Singh managed only 5 runs. In 20 overs, they could only add 118/9.

Pawan Negi was the most effective bowler for the Gujarat Greats, taking 3/13 in four overs. Abdur Razzak claimed four overs at 2/28. In the innings, Chathuranga de Silva and Kedar Jadav each claimed one wicket.
