The “you can sleep” joke, which recently attracted notice at Christ University in Bengaluru. In this practical joke, two students debate whether the lines “You is sleep” and “You can sleep” are grammatically valid. The whole class pretends to interpret the professor’s choice of “You can sleep” as permission to take a nap during the lecture.
But the students had no idea that their professor—who looked older than he really was—was already aware of the joke because of his experience with social media. Rather of falling for the ploy when the students asked him for his thoughts on the lines, the professor laughed heartily and said, “Hehe, mujhe maalum hai (I know what you are up to)” before storming out of the classroom.
The instructor then disclosed to the students that he uses Instagram for longer than they do. “Main vo sab dekhta hun aap se zyada hun.” “I like all those Reels, even though I’m old,” he said.
