Pavel Durov, a co-founder of Telegram, said on his Telegram channel that the encrypted messaging service has the ability to provide user data in response to legitimate demands from law enforcement.

Durov stated on Monday that the messenger has updated its terms of service and privacy policy, bringing them to uniformity globally. “We’ve made it clear that the IP addresses and phone numbers of those who violate our rules can be disclosed to relevant authorities in response to valid legal requests,” the Xinhua news agency reported.

These adjustments were made in an effort to “further deter criminals from abusing Telegram Search,” he said.

Additionally, Durov brought up the fact that some users were misusing Telegram’s search feature to sell illicit items. But in recent weeks, the platform’s staff has eliminated any objectionable information from searches.

Russian native Durov was arrested in Paris last month and then freed on a $5.6 million bond. He was accused of encouraging terrorism, disseminating pedophilic information, and failing to take action against Telegram users who were cyberbullying. He was barred from leaving France and put under court monitoring.
