This actor was a superstar in early 90s and has shared screen with the some of the leading actresses. Despite his brilliant success his personal life was marked by heartbreak. We are talking about none other than Sanjeev Kumar. He was Born in a Gujarati family as Harihar Jethalal Jariwala but it was his screen name- Sanjeev Kumar- that gained him massive popularity in 70s. His career began in 1960 with the Indian People Theatre Association playing senior citizens when he was just 22. This was his enthusiasm that he carried over to his film career. His film debut came in 1960 with Hum Hindustani but wasnt until his role in Nishan (1965) that he started gaining wider recognition. The turning point in his career was Khilona in 1970 that made him reached to the stage of stardom. Well In 1974 Sanjeev Kumar also gave a very superhit that was Sholay. The filmmakers approached Sanjeev Kumar to play Veeru opposite Hema Malini but the 50-year-old played the role of Thakur instead. Upon release it became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time grossing Rs 30 crore worldwide. Sholay also starred Amitabh Bachchan Jaya Bachchan and Amjad Khan. Well the Veteran actor only used to play older roles in his 20s and 30s because he had a belief that he wouldnt live to be an old man. In an interview actress and journalist Tabassum once said I asked him once why are you so obsessed with older roles? He revealed to me ‘Tabassum a palm reader once predicted that I wouldn’t live long and I won’t see older age. This is why I play older roles in films to live that life which I am not fated to otherwise’. The prediction sadly came true when Sanjeev Kumar passed away in 1985 at the age of 47. He was suffering from a hereditary heart condition that took many lives of men in his family before they reached 50. Talking about his personal life it was as dramatic as his films. One of the most interesting chapters was his love interest in Hema Malini. The actor was unaware that the dream girl was already dating Dharmendra his co-star in Sholay. Unfortunately Hema Malini had to turn down his proposal leaving him heartbroken. After this rejection Sanjeev Kumar chose to remain single for the rest of his life. He rarely discussed about his unfulfilled love story in the public and his decision to stay single always added a mystery surrounding his personal life. Even after his untimely demise Sanjeev Kumars legacy continued in the Indian cinema. He became known for his ability to portray a wide range of characters whether they were deeply emotional or lighthearted with grace and authenticity. His last incomplete film Professor Ki Padosan (1993) was changed to fit his unfished character but couldnt capture Sanjeev Kumars magic on-screen.
